Wire stock over Rs. 3.7 mn lost from highway warehouse

Bandaragama Police has launched a comprehensive investigation based on a complaint  regarding the theft of a stock of wire worth more than Rs.3.7 million from a warehouse located in Bandaragama Kahatagahahene of the Highway Operation and Maintenance Management Division.

According to the Bandaragama Police, 171 meters of wire which was to be used in providing electricity to street lamps on the Expressway had been stolen.

This theft had been revealed when stocks at the warehouse had been counted.

The complaint in connection with this robbery had been received by the Bandaragama police station on January 9.

The police said the complaint had been filed by an engineer of the Highway Operation and Maintenance Management Division.

The security officer in charge of the protection of the warehouse is being suspected. Police said that this guard is no longer employed there. A senior police officer of the Bandaragama

Police said that information regarding this employee has been requested from the company that provided security services.
