Hindu National School, Matale under 16 stickers emerged joint third with St Thomas College, Matale at the boys all Island Schools Hockey “A” division tournament, organised and conducted by the Schools Hockey Association, played at Rangiri Dambulla ground recently.
Coming upto the semi final stage, they beat D. S. Senanayake Vidyalaya, Colombo by 1 goal to nil (B. Gogulnath), Royal College, Colombo by 3 goals to nil (R. Kogul 2, D. Keshan 1), Vidyartha College, Kandy by 3 goals to nil (B. Gogulnath 1, R .Kogul 1, D. Lukshan 1) and drew with St.Thomas College, Matale 2 all (D. Lukshan 1, R. Kogul 1).
In the quarter finals they beat Dharmaraja College, Kandy by 2 goals to 1 (B. Gogulnath 1, R. Kogul 1) and unfortunately lost the semi final to Dharnadutha College, Badulla by 2 goals to 1.
In the decider for the third place, they drew with St. Thomas College, Matale with the score 1 all at full time and the officials decided to declare both teams as joint third place, due to bad light. Hindu National School, Matale stickers have performed well in all age groups with the Principal, M. Ganeshamoorthy playing a vital role by giving his heartiest support to develop Hockey.
