We have a well balanced side and expect to put up a good fight during this ICC women's under 19 inaugural cricket T 20 world cup said Sri Lanka women's under 19 skipper Vishmi Gunaratne before the team's departure in an exclusive interview with the Daily News yesterday.

We played Quadrangular T 20 tournament in India and were able to beat West Indies and that was a real boost to us . our head coach Shashikala Siriwardena and her supporting team and Manager Indrani Ariyaratne always give big support to us and we must thank Sri Lanka cricket for providing all facilities for us .Taking part in a world cup is a boost to young women cricketers and paves the way to unearth potential players for the National team said 17 year old prolific run getter Vishmi Gunaratne a product of Ratnawali BMV Gampaha.

We have good batters as well as bowlers both spinners and fast bowlers but first we want to adjust to the South African conditions and have two practice matches against UAE and Scotland before the world cup which will commence on January 14 with the USA game.

USA, Bangladesh and Australia are grouped with us and our first target is to qualify from the league round. Three teams will advance to the next round and we have a good chance but we never take any game lightly said skipper Vishmi Gunaratne.

I am lucky to lead the side at this inaugural world cup and as a top order batter I am hoping to give of my best for the side. Former National skipper Shashikala Siriwardena is our head coach .She has vast experience as a former player and that will benefit us. We are very keen to take part in this world cup and playing against Foreign teams is a good experience for us .We know Australia and India have very strong teams and a few National players are in their teams said Vishmi Gunaratne.

Ratnawali BMV Gampaha Principal Hema Jayawadena is accompanying the team as teacher in charge and she is the women's Cricket development chairperson said Vishmi before their departure
