The Chief Prelates of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters have sent a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe requesting to conduct a formal investigation regarding the construction of a fake Dalada Maligawa in the Pothuhera area on Kurunegala- Wadakada Road by collecting money and gold by deceiving Buddhist devotees in Sri Lanka and abroad and issuing statements insulting the historical Sri Dalada Maligawa.
The letter has been signed by the Cheif Prelate of the Malwatta Chapter of Siam Nikaya, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sector, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thera and Diyawadana Nilame of Sri Dalada Maligawa Pradeep, Nilanga Dela Bandara.
The letter states that information has been received regarding the construction of a fake Dalada Maligawa by a person named Janaka Senadhipathi at Potuhera on Kurunegala- Wadakada road. It has been reported many local and foreign devotees including priests have donated a large amount of money and gold by deceiving to this myth.
It is also observed that a person called Sepal Amarasinghe has posted insulting statements on Buddhism and Sri Dalada Maligawa on social media hurting the Buddhist devotees.
Thus constructing fake Dalada Maligawa and highlighting myths and issuing defamatory statements against Buddhism are harmful to the Buddhist religion while distorting the history of Dalada Maligawa is massively harmful to the absolute sanctity of the Sri Dalada Maligawa which is sacredness and venerated by local and foreign devotees all over the world.
Undoubtedly, everyone will understand that it is an insult to Buddhism, the letter said.
