WHT on senior citizens’ interest income removed

The government has decided to exempt senior citizens’ bank interest income of less than Rs.100,000 from withholding tax (WHT). State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the government has decided not  to subject the bank interest income of senior citizens below Rs.100,000 to the withholding tax. This decision has been taken after considering the difficulties they are facing due to this tax.
