“Social Media use by Govt. employees during working hours shows increase”

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration N.B. Hapuhinna said that the use of social media by employees during working hours has increased in some Government offices. The secretary said that public servants should be careful when using mobile phones during office hours and such things should be done subject to restrictions. The Secretary was speaking at a ceremony at the Ministry of Public Administration organized to mark the beginning of work for the New Year yesterday.

The secretary said that when the employees of some private sector organisations report for work, they are asked to put their mobile phones in their lockers and take them back when they leave the office.

“As officers of the Public Service, they expect to provide Public Service with maximum dedication. In particular, government officials should work to limit the daily public visits to the ministry as much as possible and to speed up the Public Service,” he added.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of State for Home Affairs Ashoka Priyantha, Minister of State for State Administration and Provincial Councils Janaka Wakkambura and other officials participated in this event.
