Community kitchen for 2,500 families launched at Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple

Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake, Senior Advisor to the President, Ruwan Wijewardene, Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and former minister Daya Gamage, at the launch of the community kitchen at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple.

A community kitchen based at the historic Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple was launched on January 1 under the leadership of Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and President’s Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake.

This programme is being implemented targeting 2,500 families in Hunupitiya in the Slave Island Police Division, Slave Island, Galle Face, Ibbanwela and Wekanda DS Divisions, who are finding it difficult to get food.

This daily community kitchen programme will run for 40 days from the January 1. During this period, the Government has taken steps to improve the economic conditions through welfare programmes such as creating self-employment opportunities, providing professional training, and providing social development to the people of the beneficiary families.

This community kitchen is run with the help of the Gangaramaya Temple donors, the Tri-Forces, the Police, the Civil Security Department, and government agencies, as well as the International Lions Club, Rotary Club, and many private organizations, under the guidance of the Presidential Secretariat.

Senior Advisor to the President Ruwan Wijewardene, former Minister Daya Gamage, Defence Secretary General (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne, Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva, Commanders of the three Armed Forces, Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Civil Security Department, Coordinating Secretary to the President Rajitha Abeygunasekara, Presidential Media Director W.M.K. Wijayabandara and other officials were present at the inauguration.
