The Excise Department has succeeded in recording an income of Rs.170 billion which is the highest since the inception of the department 110 years ago. According to Excise Commissioner General M.J.Gunasiri, the department has recorded the highest income in its 110 year history.
He said that the department has recorded an income of Rs.121 billion in 2020 and Rs.140 billion in 2021.He added that the commitment of the department’s employees has led to increase the income of the department.
The department has made this achievement in the background of alcohol price increase and the decrease in demand for alcohol during the last six months of 2022.
Department sources said that demand for alcohol in the country has decreased by 40 per cent during the last six months of 2022.
