Bus race ends in disaster in Palai, passenger killed, 18 injured

An SLTB bus which was plying to Trincomalee from Jaffna had toppled at Palai, Kilinochchi killing one passenger and injuring 18 others on Wednesday evening.

The accident had taken place after the bus skid amidst  the rain experienced in the area while racing with another bus. It was reported that the driver had lost control of the bus due to the high speed the bus was at by the time of the accident.

Four of the injured are receiving treatment at hospitals in critical conditions and the others sustain minor injuries, hospital sources said.

They have been admitted to the Kilinochchi and Jaffna hospitals.

Police have arrested the bus driver for reckless driving.Palai and Kilinochchi police are conducting investigations.
