Govt steadfast in achieving macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability -Minister

Sri Lankan Government is steadfast in achieving macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability and looks forward to harnessing the full potential of a new economic model based on an export oriented competitive economy, an environmentally friendly blue-green economy and a digital economy, said State Minister of Finance, Shehan Semasinghe at the Inaugural Session of the Sixth South and South-West Asia Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Pakistan.

This will be achieved whilst ensuring that vulnerable and marginalized groups will be foregrounded in the economic recovery and reform efforts through stronger social safety nets.

Semasinghe also reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Sri Lanka to ensure that the hard-earned development outcomes are not reversed due to the economic and other challenges confronting Sri Lanka in the post-pandemic era.

The Sixth South and South West Asia Forum on SDGs is jointly convened by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Government of Pakistan, concluded in Islamabad. The theme of the event was ‘ Accelerating the recovery from Covid-19 and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels’.

Sri Lanka’s delegation to the Forum comprises of Shehan Semasinghe, Minister of State for Finance, Priyantha Rathnayake, Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, Prof. Hemanthi Ranasinghe, Member of the Sustainable Development Council and Chamindry Saparamadu, Director-General of the Sustainable Development Council (joining virtually from Colombo).
