Minister asked SLTB Chairman to step down

Transport and Highways Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has asked for the resignation of Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) Chairman Kinsley Ranawaka with immediate effect.

The Minister has informed the SLTB chairman in writing that the SLTB management has taken unilateral decision to stop the city bus service which became popular among the public without informing him as the Minister in charge of the Transport.

“This bus service was first launched in 2021 but later suspended for few months due to COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

However, this bus service was launched again on July 15, 2022 under my patronage,” the Minister said.

He said that Government and Private Sector employees who come by their own vehicles were able to park their vehicles at the Multi Model Centre at Makumbura and made use of the City Bus service to reach their desired destination in Colombo.

“This initiative helped reduce the traffic congestion on the High Level to some extent and the carbondioxide per centage in the atmosphere too,” the Minister said.

He said that the SLTB Chairman has not complied with the policy decisions taken by the Government, for the welfare of the people and asked Ranawaka to step down from the post of Chairman and the SLTB Director Board with immediate effect
