Plans to set up 10 new industrial estates

Rs.one billion has been allocated for the development of industrial estates in this year’s Budget and steps will be taken to set up 10 new industrial estates using that amount, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Ranjith Wimalasuriya announced yesterday (29).

He stated this at the Zoom meeting held jointly by the Ministry of Mass Media and the Ministry of Industry.

He said that there are 33 Industrial Estates operating across the country and advisory committees have been formed for 21 identified industrial sectors and strategic decisions are made through this.

25 percent of the country’s total export income is received from the plantation sector, which is second only to the garment export income. In the year 2022, Rs.11,310 million has been allocated for development projects with Rs.4,405 million for development projects. Rs. 2,845 million has been allocated for subsidiary export programmes, Rs.1,460 million for the small tea and rubber revival project and Rs.2,600 million for the agricultural modernization project.
