‘33 persons, 70 elephants in A’pura perished in HEC this year’

This year so far 33 people and 70 elephants had died in Anuradhapura due to human-elephant conflict (HEC).

Twelve persons had died in elephant attacks in September alone.

Of this number, the highest of casualties are reported from the Kabithigollawa DS Division where three people were killed.

A new circular stated that Rs. 100,0000 will be paid as compensation for a person who died in elephant attacks after August 2, 2021.

For those who died before this date, the compensation was Rs.500,000. The legal guardians of the deceased will be entitled to the compensation
