Increase in HIV patients in Galle

Thirty three (33) HIV(AIDS) patients have been identified, following clinical tests conducted by the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) units located in Galle Mahamodara and Balapitiya hospitals during this year so far.

Galle District Regional Epidemiologist Dr. Eranga Hettiarachchi said 30 HIV patients and three AIDS patients from Galle and Balapitiya units respectively have been found in the corresponding tests. This year more patients have been reported than last year, the regional epidemiologist said. Dr. Hettiarachchi said that 296 tuberculosis patients and 51 leprosy patients have been reported so far this year.
