President to retain four Ministries under him, PM agrees

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to retain four ministries in his charge under Article 44 (3) of the Constitution of Sri Lanka. The President has taken this decision after consulting  Prime Minister Dinesh Gunewardane. President’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake has issued an extraordinary gazette notification stating that the President, having consulted with the Prime Minister under Article 44(3) of the Constitution of Sri Lanka, has determined that the four ministerial portfolios should be in his charge. Accordingly, in addition to Defence Ministry, the President will be in charge of the Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Ministry,Technology Ministry, Women, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment Ministry and the Investment Promotion Ministry of.

Justice Minister Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that according to the 21st Constitutional Amendment, it is mandatory for the President to hold the Defence Ministership and after consulting the Prime Minister, the President has the ability to hold other ministerial posts.
