Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay visited Batticaloa on Saturday (01) and took part in several functions.

He was the chief guest at the 26th convocation of the Eastern University where he promised an Indian scholarship for postgraduate studies.

He inspected the surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital funded by the Indian Government.

Baglay garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, whose 153rd birth anniversary fell yesterday (02), at Gandhi Park, Batticaloa.

He distributed food packs to families living below the poverty line, organized by the State Minister of Commerce and Trade Sathasivam Viyalendran, where Batticaloa Government Agent K. Karunagaran also was present, at Devanayagam Hall, Arasady, Batticaloa.

He concluded his visit by taking part in the Navarathri observation at the Kallady Ramakrishna Mission where he met the inmates of the children’s home.
