Principal transferred over alleged violation of admission procedure

The Principal of a leading boys school in Kandy has been transferred to the Zonal Education Office of the Central Province over a complaint of allegedly admitting students violating the stipulated procedure.

An inquiry has commenced on complaints by several parents that the Principal in question solicited bribes when admitting students.Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage said the Principal was transferred as if he remains in the same position could result in the obstruction of the relevant inquiry.

He said about 184 students had recently been admitted to the school in an unlawful manner.

“Each year, four students, who pass the Grade 5 Scholarship Exam, are admitted to the Grade 6 from President’s Model Primary School in Dodanwala, and the Principal had allegedly obtained money from the parents to admit them,” the Governor added.

A Deputy Director of the Zonal Education Office has been appointed as acting Principal of the school until investigations are concluded.
