Customs holds three businesspersons with foreign cigarettes

A team of customs officers took into custody three Sri Lankan businessmen at the Katunayake Airport arrival terminal yesterday (23) morning for bringing in a stock of cigarettes manufactured abroad worth Rs. 7,792,000. The businessmen are residents of Chilaw and Marawila. They are aged 30, 36 and 42.

They arrived at the Katunayake Airport at 7.40 am yesterday on flight WY 371 of Oman Airlines from Muscat in Oman. They had arrived bringing with them illegally 487 cartons containing 77,400 of Manchester cigarettes manufactured abroad.

During the formal investigation carried out, these illegally brought cigarettes were confiscated and the three businessmen were ordered to pay a fine.
