Nayake Thera requests PM to gazette boundaries of Mihintale Sacred City

Mihintale Raja Maha Viharadhipathi Ven. Walawahaengunuwewa Dhammarathana Nayaka Thera requested Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to take immediate action to gazette the demarcation of boundaries of the Mihintale Sacred City which has been prolonging unwarrantedly and also to legalize the date of passing of Arhat Mahinda Thera.

The Ven. Thera made these requests when Prime Minister Gunawardena paid a courtesy call on him recently at the Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara.

Referring to the increase in electricity tariffs, the Nayaka Thera said that due to this, the majority of temples, churches, kovils and mosques would remain in darkness at night. He requested the Prime Minister to look into exempting religious places from the increased tariffs.

The prelate also said that today, Parliament with its 225 Members is reportedly broken into 48 fragments. Fathers and sons, family members and relatives who dominate the Parliament are dreaming and preparing to be the next prime minister, the next president, etc., even at this period of economic crisis.

Also no politician shall be permitted by law to contest more than two occasions, for if he or she is continuously engaged in politics, it becomes a permanent job endowed with numerous benefits and privileges, the Ven. Thera said.
