Siddhalepa launches staff humanitarian donation programme

With essential dry ration packages every month

In response to the looming threat of a national food crisis, caused by Sri Lanka’s worst ever post-independence economic crisis, Hettigoda Group launched a staff humanitarian donation programme where employees are presented an essential dry ration package every month, to tide over this financially challenging period.

Marking this timely donation the Chairman and Managing Director Asoka Hettigoda and the Board of Directors - Rupasiri Wickramanayaka, Vidyani Hettigoda, Lankani Hettigoda, Dilanthi Fernando, Sarojini Fernando, Wasantha Ariyathilaka and company staff participated at the event held in August 2022.

Chairman and Managing Director Asoka Hettigoda stated; “With national inflation at over 60% up to last month (August) even essential food items have gone beyond the reach of the lower income groups and the underprivileged sector of our country, who have been undergoing unprecedented trials and difficulties for their daily survival. International aid agencies Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) have also warned of food security issues in Sri Lanka. The FAO and WFP have estimated that 6.3 million Sri Lankans are facing moderate to severe acute food in security. These organisations expect the situation to worsen mainly during October 2022 to February 2023 if immediate livelihood and life-saving assistance are not provided. Siddhalepa has directly addressed this issue by ensuring food security for their staff of over 1,000 employees.”

Late Chairman of Hettigoda Group, Sahassrabisheka Waidyashuri Deshabandu Ayur Dr. Victor Hettigoda (LittD) was a visionary leader who has set many exemplary initiations to support health and well-being of the staff. Siddhalepa takes care of their staff’s health and well-being by providing free and subsidized meals.

A free breakfast is served to all employees together with a cup of Lakpeyawa which has helped in boosting the immunity levels of staff during the Covid pandemic and continuing till date. Siddhalepa provides a carefully and safely prepared lunch at a very nominal cost, ensuring a healthy and clean lunch pack for all staff.

A free transport facility is available for all staff who travel from Panadura, Maharagama and Rajagiriya, this facility had been available for many years and it has highly benefited the staff during the fuel crisis.
