Anuradhapura Police have launched an investigation to arrest a person wanted in connection with a sexual abuse incident of a 15-year-old girl. The suspect is identified as the grandfather of the girl.
Police say that the incident came to light when a female Police Sergeant attached to the Anuradhapura Police Headquarters who was visiting the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital was informed by a nurse of the hospital that an underaged schoolgirl of the Pubudupura area in Anuradhapura was receiving treatment in the hospital.
The female Police officer then recorded a statement of the girl, in which she stated that she was sexually assaulted by her grandfather during the school vacation in 2021. At present, the girl has been sent to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) Unit for treatment.
The Child and Women Bureau of the Anuradhapura Police Headquarters is conducting further investigations regarding the incident.
