Madushani sets record in Girls' Under 18 Long Jump

Madushani Herath of Nannapuruwa MV Bibile came up with a fine performance when set up an under 18 girls' long jump new record with a leap of 6.09m at the Sir John Tarbet Athletic Championship which concluded at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium Diyagama yesterday. Madushani the promising athlete from the Monaragala District despite the lack of facilities achieved this while most of the rural athletes did well during this four-day event.

Meanwhile, in the under 16 girls' Pole Vault event, P. Abhisalyni of Hindu College Chavakachcheri set up a new meet record with a leap of 3m. The key events of the 100x4 relay was won by Maris Stella Negombo (boys') with 45.76 seconds while Princess of Wales', Moratuwa, won the girls' 100x4 relay with a time of 51.38 seconds.

The four-day meet was conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association and sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. and successfully ended with a record number of participants from all over the country. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Athletics is scheduled to conduct selection trials to form the Junior and Youth pool this weekend (17. 18) at the same venue Diyagma Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium.
