India retained the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Boys’ Under-17 Championship when they defeated Nepal 4-0 in the final encounter played under lights at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo on Wednesday.

This was also the fourth instance that India had won this tournament and on all three previous occasions they had beaten Nepal in the final in 2013, 2017 and 2019 respectively.

In addition, India were able to avenge their previous defeat at the hands of the same opponents having earlier lost their Group ‘B’ fixture to Nepal 1-3 at the same venue.

This time, of course, India took the lead in the 11th minute through a beautiful header from Boby Singh and Korou Singh made it 2-0 after 30 minutes of play with a superb solo effort.

After the turnaround, India virtually sealed the contest in their favour with Skipper Vanlalpeka Guite finding the net through a splendid long-range kick and Aman Julfikar added more misery on their opponents with an injury-time goal.
