Work on a jetty has been started adjacent to the confluence of the Handala Hamilton Canal and the Kelani River so that equipment including generators for the Sobadanavi IMG Thermal Power Plant to be added to the National Grid in 2024.

The construction near the bridge between Handala and Mattakkuliya across the Kelani River connecting the Colombo and Gampaha Districts was in full swing on September 14.

The Sobadanavi Thermal Power Plant is being constructed by Lakdanavi on behalf of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). It will be completed before the end of 2023 and 220 megawatts will be added to the National Grid.
