Bourse back in the greens spearheaded by banking stocks

Colombo bourse recouped its lost momentum yesterday with healthy turnovers led by index heavy shares with the participation of foreign and local investors.

Thus, All-Share Price Index increased by 165.0 points (+1.7%) to close at 9,914.1 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 46.6 points (+1.5%) to close at 3,179.8. Sampath Bank, John Keells Holdings, Commercial Bank,, Lanka IOC and Aitken Spence Hatton National Bank and National Development Bank remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 4,096.2 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,249.6 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 158,850.7k against the 12-month average daily volume of 204,608.1k. Capital Goods, Diversified Financials and Insurance mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover.

The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 842.1 mn (+0.6%), Browns Investments Rs.257.9 mn (+0.0%), Lanka IOC Rs.246.5 mn (+0.9%), Sampath Bank Rs. 203.4 mn (+13.8%), John Keells Holdings Rs.168.1 mn (+4.9%) and Ceylon Hotels Corporation Rs. 143.2 mn (+32.9%). Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 673.7 mn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 830.6 mn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.156.9 mn.

Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Expolanka Holdings (Rs.690.0 mn), Royal Ceramics (Rs. 40.0 mn), John Keells Holdings (Rs. 33.6 mn) and Dialog Axiata (Rs. 27.0 mn) yesterday. Additionally, Ceylon Printers, Office Equipment, The Autodrome, Ceylon Hotels Corp. and Pan Asia Bank were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Good Hope, HVA Foods, Co-operative Insurance, Kelani Cables and Radiant Gems International were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, Industrial Asphalts, Co-operative Insurance, SMB leasing (Voting) and Sampath Bank were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
