It was a red letter day for both Sri Lanka Cricket and Netball .A grand felicitation ceremony for Asian champion cricket and Netball teams WAS organised by the Dialog Axiata,Sports Ministry and the Sri Lanka cricket.
Actually this was historic event as both Asian champion Netball team and cricket team arrived AT Katunayake Airport and they were warmly welcomed by the Newly appointed State Minister of Sports Rohana Dissanayake,Sports Director General Amal Edirisooriya ,Sri Lanka Cricket Vice President Dr Jayantha Dharmadasa and senior officials of both SLC and Sri Lanka Netball Federation.On the way FROM Dubai to Colombo by sriLankan Airlines UL 226 flight they were treated by the Sri Lankan Airlines support staff who cut a cake to celebrate this great victory.
The State Minister of Sports Rohana Dissanayake said it is a great honour to welcome both Asian champion Cricket team and Netball team on the same day while Sport Ministry always supported to build up these teams to go forward. On behalf of the Sri Lanka Government and the Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe we are really proud about the teams performance said State Minister Rohana who participated in his first official event after he assumed duties as the State Minister of Sports.
The Vice President of the SLC Dr Jayantha Dharmadasa and his SLC team was present as part of the felicitation ceremony.SLC always backed the cricket team and their support always highly appreciated by the Sri Lanka Cricket team .Dr Jayantha Dharmadasa who is in charge of the International cricket works closely with the Cricket team on overceas tours and this time it was a huge success which brought back the Asia Cup after eight years. Last time Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup in Bangladesh but that was a ODI format while this time T 20 format and Sri Lanka proved their prowess in both white ball formats .
We have a clear vision and want to go for the world cup with confidence.SLC always backed the Sri Lanka cricket team and today they gained success.

The proud Netball skipper Gayanjali Amarawansha said this was historic occasion and really appreciated Dialog and Sports Ministry for organising this event. I have been part of the last two 2016, 2018 and this time 2023 Netball team for the Asia Cup and I am very happy this time we saw a well organized welcome ceremony and our Netball lovers as well as cricket lovers witnessed this occasion.We all represented the National team and our aim is to bringt honour for the country .
The chairman of the Netball selection committee Dhamayanthi Jayathilleka said the girls effort was highly successful and they were commited to retain the title in great style. We have selected the best Netball team and got thr best result
“One team” - One Nation” this is the Sri Lanka Cricket motto and that's already proved and we are very happy to see this ceremony said man of the series Wanindu Hasaranga.Actually we played really well as a team and bring honour forthe country we knew this is the best reward for the country and I am very happy to be part of the team said Sri Lanka deputy skipper Charith Asalanka.
We had good vision and planned to go match by match and now we can go to World T 20 with more confidence said Maheesh Theekshana the mystery spinner of the Sri Lanka team.
Pathum Nissanka said we are proud to came here as Asia Cup champion and look forward to do well .The latest additoin to the cricket team Promod Madushan said We are delighted to get this victory.This is my debut T 20 tour while I was able to play last two games against Pakistan. in The first game i took two wickets and in the final 4 wicket haul to pave the way to clinch the Asia Cup. I came from Hambantota with limited facilities but today I am also part of the team. said 28 year old Promod Madushan.
Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva also came by UL 226 flight from Dubai .He always really encouraged the team .I think this is a great moment and we had to wait eight years to get Asia Cup and now want to get ready for the T 20 world cup and I am sure Sri Lanka team will get success like this added SLC Chief.
The two teams were warmly welcomed and from Airport to Netball Federation National Netball team came in an open double decker bus displaying the Asia Netball Cup while Sri Lanka Cricket team bus from Airport to Sri Lanka Cricket headquarters with huge crowd celebrations from two sides of the Katunayake - Colombo Main road and people were very keen to witness both Asian Cricket and Netball champions.
