Bourse records Rs.6 bn plus turnover yesterday

Colombo bourse recorded a healthy turnover yesterday with heavy foreign buying in EXPO and local investor interest on large cap stocks.

Thus, All-Share Price Index decreased by 116.9 points (+1.3%) to close at 9,447.3 for the day whilst S&P SL20 Index also gained by 19.8 points (+0.7%) to close at 3,017.9. Richard Pieris, Ceylinco Insurance, Royal Ceramics, Expolanka Holdings, Lanka IOC and Aitken Spence and Lanka IOC remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 6,082.2 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 4,399.5 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 276,527.1k against the 12-month average daily volume of 209,598.6k.

Capital Goods, Banks and Diversified Financials mostly contributed to yesterday’s turnover. The top turnover generators for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 2.5 bn (+2.0%), Lanka IOC Rs.585.8 mn (+2.4%), CIC Holdings (Non-Voting) Rs. 244.4 mn (+6.6%), Lankem Developments Rs. 228.0 mn (+11.3%) and Richard Pieris Rs. 197.5 mn (+15.8%). Foreigners recorded a net inflow of Rs. 2.3 bn yesterday. Foreign purchases stood at Rs. 2.4 bn whilst total foreign sales amounted to Rs.99.8 mn. Top foreign buying counters EXPO LKR.

2,274.1 mn, BALA LKR. 16.5 mn, CCS LKR. 3.9 mn, HAYL LKR. 3.6 mn, LALU LKR. 2.3 mn and LLUB LKR. 1.7 mn whilst top foreign selling counters were CFLB LKR. (4.1) mn, ACL LKR. (2.2) mn, LWL LKR. (1.6) mn, DPL LKR. (1.3) mn, SUN LKR. (1.1) mn and BFL LKR. (0.8) mn. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Expolanka Holdings (Rs.2.3 bn), Kelsey Developments (Rs.182.7 mn), Kelani Valley Plantations (Rs.56.7 mn) and Swisstek (Ceylon) (Rs.20.4 mn) yesterday.

Additionally, SMB leasing (Voting), Serendib Land, Selinsing, Tess Agro (Voting and Non-Voting) and Kelsey Developments were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Senkadagala Finance, Laugfs Power (Non-Voting), Lanka Ventures, BPPL Holdings and Nuwara Eliya Hotels were the top price losers. Further, SMB leasing (Voting and Non- Voting), Kotagala Plantations, Tess Agro (Voting), LOLC Finance and Expolanka Holdings were among the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
