Sandathi Usgodaarachchi put up a fine performance to reach the semi-finals of the Girls’ Under-12 Singles event at the National Tennis Championships continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.
The favourite for the title rallied around magnificently and went on to beat Oshini Gunarathne in straight sets 4-1, 4-0 in the quarter-finals.
The others to join the semi-final line-up of this event were Yuhansa Peiris, Annaya Norbet and Akesha Silva.
Meanwhile, all favourites in the Boys’ Under-12 event also made it to the semi-finals with convincing victories.
The results
Girls’ Under-12 (quarter-finals): Yuhansa Peiris beat Hesandee Mallawa 2-4, 4-2, 11-9. Annaya Norbet beat Gianna Perera 4-2, 5-3.
Sandathi Usgodaarachchi beat Oshini Gunarathne 4-1, 4-0. Akesha Silva beat Chiara de Zoysa 4-0, 4-1.
Boys’ Under-12 (quarter-finals): Rishith Somarathne beat Chamath Dharmarathne 4-1, 4-1. Rahil Rizvie beat Yudeeraya Atapattu 4-1, 4-2. Ashlin de Silva beat Ramon Sritharan 5-3, 4-2. Minhas Muthuthantri beat Mayooran Kuberan 4-1, 4-2.
