Minister promises inquiry into NHDA, Kalutara office fraud

Urban Development Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said that he will ensure that the investigation into the fraud at the National Housing Authority’s Kalutara office be conducted in an impartial manner.

A senior officer of the National Housing Development Authority stated that an investigation has been launched pertaining to a fraud which has been taken place at the Kalutara District Office.

The officer also said that three clerks attached to that office have already been suspended due to this incident.

He further stated that investigation has been launched in connection with defrauding of millions of rupees by certain officials of the office from the loan installments paid for the housing loans taken by the low income earners from the Kalutara district office of the National Housing Development Authority.

Accordingly, in the investigations carried out so far, it has been revealed that several people working in the company and several other officials, who obtained additional income as money recovery officers, have committed this fraud together.
