Sri Lankan golfer Nadaraja Thangaraja produced an outstanding performance to secure the runner-up place at the 2022 Chennai Open Golf Championship, worked off at the TNGF Golf Course in Chennai.
The former caddy at the Waters Edge Golf Course, took second place at 16-under 272 following a splendid final-round performance of 72, while competing under hot and humid conditions.
In fact, at one stage Thangaraja was in line to win a cheque of Indian Rs. 6,00,000 as he managed to claim the top spot on the second and third days of the championship with excellent scores of 66-67-67-72.
However, he made a poor start with three bogeys on the front-nine on the final day before he came roaring back with three birdies on the back-nine to claim second position.
Meanwhile, Manu Gandas marched to a convincing four-shot victory with a dazzling final day performance of five-under 67 and to lift his fourth PGTI Trophy.
Over 100 competitors including some of the top seasoned and high-ranked players participated at this tournament, which offered a prize money of Indian Rs. 40 lakhs.
