Trinity College Weightlifting team continues their great deeds. they did their best to win the All Island Inter School Weightlifting Championship by scoring 49 points. The event organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Weightlifting, Power Lifting Strength Building Federation, which took place at M/Rajagiri Vidyalaya, Aranayake. Due to the superb performance the Trinitians were able to pocket fifteen medals, that is seven Gold, three Silver and 5 Bronze. A big hand should go to their coach M. Wijeratne for a good job and K. Galagoda the MIC for giving a big hand.The weightlifters who were first and won the gold medals in their respective age and weight categories are; Under 16 - 49kg - Thisal Rajapakse, 89kg - Chanithu Ranathunge and 102kg – Sadil Angammana, Under 20 - 73kg - Abidh Jameel, 89kg - Dhuwarakesh Vijaykumar, 102kg – Hashendra Wijethilake and 109+kg - Yahadasun Ratnayake . Those who won silver medals in their categories are; under 16 81kg - Yasan Kavsidu, Under 18 96kg - Kavinjith Amarasinghe, Under 20 55kg - Arya Solomons. And Bronze medal winners in their events are; under 18 49kg - Cheruka Rajanayake, 102+kg - Rinoshan Gunasekaran. Under 20 73kg - Jason Peter, 81kg - Sandanu Iddamalgoda, 96kg - Sherwain Wavita. Thisal Rajapakse was adjudged the “Best Lifter” in the Under 16 age category. The team won the championship with a massive gap between the other competing schools, Trinity College Kandy - 49 points, second place went to Royal College - 25 points.
Trinity hockey side wins
Trinity College hockey team was able to beat S. Thomas’ College side by two goals to one in the 18th Warden Neville de Alwis shield game played at Mt. Lavania. The annual hockey encounter between Trinity College and S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia came into existence in 1950 and since then the fixture has been a regular in the calendar. The trophy for the encounter was introduced in 2003 in memory of the former warden of S. Thomas’ College Dr. Neville de Alwis. Few games were not played due to Covid pandemic. This time in the senior game Trinitians scored two goals off the stick of K.N. Jayalath and D. Thirlakshana and Thomains goal was from H. Ehelepola. In the junior game S. Thomas `beat Trinity 1-0 to win the Sahayam trophy and the Old boys game ended in a four all draw.
Kingswood College does well football
Kingswood College emerged as the champions of the Central Province School games under 20 football championship for the third consecutive year and in the under 16 championship for the second consecutive time, thanks to the coaches S.A. Weerasinghe and Kosla Nawarthne for their good work in coaching part and it is said that now they are selected to play in the National school games football tournament from Central Province. The under 16 side was led by Ashik Asmi and Dulaj Hearth led the under 20 side.
In the first game the under 20 side got a walk over in the first round, in the pre-quarterfinals beat Ragala Tamil High School by 5 goals to nil, in the quarter finals beat St. Xavier’s College Nuwara Eliya 4-0, in the semifinal beat Jinaraja Boys College Gampola 4-0, and in the finals edged out Zahira College Gampola by 1 goal to nil. It was nice to see Kingswoodian Inoon Ishan scoring eight goals in four games with two hat-tricks. And this tournament was well organized and good football was seen.
In the under 16 tournament during the first round got a walk over as defending champions and in the pre quterfinals beat St. Andrews College Gampola 2-0, Quarter finals beat Zahira College Gampola 2-1, in the semifinals beat Benhill International school on penalties after the game ended in one all draw. In penalties winners scored 4 goals to 1. IN the final beat Kalugamuwa Central College on penalties after a full time one all draw. In penalties the winners scored 5 goals against 3.
This tournament was organized by the Central province Education Department where twenty four teams from Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya District participate. All games were played at the Bogambara Stadium.
