Student in trauma after Principal’s beating

A fourteen-year-old student of a School in Jaffna has been seriously injured and admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital allegedly after being subjected to corporal punishment by his school principal.

It is stated in the complaint made by his parents to the police that the student’s head, shoulder and hands were injured and the student is suffering from severe mental trauma due to the incident. The principal had reportedly punished the student because he did not perform a task given by the principal.

Kopay Police and the Kopay Education Directorate and the Human Rights Committee have initiated investigations regarding the incident.
