Government has fulfilled four IMF conditions - NPP

National People’s Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath yesterday said that the government has fulfilled four out of five conditions laid down by the International Monetary Fund. Herath said that the IMF had presented a documents to the government laying down five conditions to be fulfilled and these conditions are tax increase, float the rupee,   restructuring of state owned ventures, increase of power tariff and minimising fraud and corruption.

He said that the government has succeeded in fulfilling four conditions except the reduction of fraud and corruption.

Herath said that the government tried to deceive the public by reducing the prices of few essential items while increasing the electricity tariff to an unprecedented level.

He was of the view that prices of many goods will increase as the production cost goes up due to power tariff increases.
