A fresh request to free the Tamil prisoners detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) was made from President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Thamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani (TMTK) Leader MP C.V. Wigneswaran said.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he said that he made this request from the President when discussions on an All-Party Government came up.
He pointed out that it was unfair to detain the Tamil prisoners for many years without charges or a court case.
He said that the need to resolve the issue of prisoners detained under the PTA was emphasized by him to Wickremesinghe even before the Parliamentary Vote to elect a new President.
He pointed out that President Wickremesinghe could obtain the support of all Tamil Parties for an All-Party Government if the President resolves this issue.
