Bus owners issue death threats to NTC officials

Minister Dr. Gunawardena tells officials to take legal action

National Transport Commission (NTC) Chairman and Director General Nilan Miranda have made a complaint to the Narahenpita police after Commission officials faced death threats from bus owners who are against the reduction of bus fares.

According to Commission sources, a discussion has been held at the Commission premises with the participation of bus owners over the reduction of bus fares. Following this meeting, a group of bus owners have behaved in an unruly manner, threatening the Commission’s officials. 

They also abused the other officers of the premises uttering profanities over the phone and threatened to kill them. Transport and Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardena has issued specific instructions to the Ministry Secretary to take legal action against the bus owners for obstructing the duties of the commission’s officials following an internal inquiry.
