Brother-in-law of deceased remanded

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday ordered the remand of a suspect arrested in connection with the murder of the brother of social activist Dan Priyasad, until August 12.

Wellampitiya Police had arrested the suspect over the murder of a person called Thilak Prakash Kumara who was hacked to death near the Orugodawatte flyover on July 25.

Suspect has been identified as the brother-in-law of the deceased and he has supported the murderers by offering to locate the victim in order to commit the crime.

Police suspect that the cause for the murder is rivalry between two drug smuggling groups operating in the area.

Police are conducting further investigations.
