Unused medical equipment in some hospitals given to others

Kalmunai Regional Director of Health Services (RDHS) Dr. I.L.M. Rifas said that at time when the country is faced with an economic crisis, the Department of Health in the region has handed over unused medical equipment lying in certain hospitals to hospitals which need them, after the necessary repairs.

Medical equipment to the tune of Rs. 200 million was repaired and handed over to hospitals under the ‘Pioneer Resource Mapping’ scheme supported by World Bank.

Dr. Rifas was speaking at the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the construction of Panankadu Divisional Hospital in Akkaraipattu at a cost of Rs. 20.2 million.

The ceremony was presided over by the Medical Officer in Charge of the Hospital Dr. U.L.M. Zackeel and was attended by Additional RDHS Dr. M.G. Abdul Wajeed, Regional Planning Director Dr. M.C.M. Mahir, Alayadivembu Divisional Secretary V. Pabakaran, Anti Malaria Medical Officer in Charge Dr. M.M. Nowshard, Ayurverdic Medical Officer M.A. Nafeel, Building Construction Engineer R. Achchuthan, and Secretary of the HDS Dr. Chitra Dewarajan.

Dr. Rifas said that the DHS has been monitoring the activities of the government medical institutions in the region and attending to their needs. Unused equipment in some hospitals were given to others which needed them.

This methodology is not only benefits the hospitals in the region, but is also considered as a great assistance to the Government at this critical time, he said.
