Suspect arrested with 580 litres of illegally stored diesel

SAPUGASKANDA: Sapugaskanda Police arrested a suspect for illegally storing 580 litres of diesel worth Rs 266,000 on Wednesday.

The diesel had been stored in two barrels and 10 cans behind a shop at the Dimo Junction in Siyambalape.

Police said that diesel is said to be sold at Rs. 1,000 a litre by these errant traders in the black market.

Police said that these errant traders get fuel by many illegal means. Such illegal activities deprive the public from getting fuel though they stay days in queues. They also create an artificial fuel shortage in the country, while traders get an undue profit.

The suspect was to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate.
