Stolen T-56 firearm recovered from Diyawanna Oya

The T-56 firearm that was stolen during the protest near Polduwa junction on July 13 has been recovered.

The Police Media Spokesman’s Office said that the Navy divers had found the weapon in the Diyawanna Oya under the Rajagiriya Samanala Bridge near Parliament.

The firearm and a bag of empty ammunition that was recovered was handed over to the Welikada Police Station.

The Welikada Police is conducting further investigations into the incident.

On July 13, a group of protesters had assaulted a soldier and got away with his T56 weapon.
