Lankapura DS AO killed in her sleep

The Administrative Officer (AO) of the Lankapura Divisional Secretariat was killed by an unidentified suspect while asleep in the wee hours of yesterday, Police said. The victim 42-year-old Yamuna Padmini is a resident of Thalpotha, Pulasthipura.

According to Police, the suspect had entered the house and disconnected the power supply before committing the crime with a sharp object.

Padmini died on admission to the Polonnaruwa hospital. The autopsy into the body was to be held at the Polonnaruwa hospital yesterday.

The husband and the daughter of the victim also had been in the house by the time of the incident and they had been sleeping on a separate bed, it was revealed.

Police are yet to recover the reason for the murder and the identity of the suspect.

However, according to the preliminary investigations, the police suspect that the murderer of the AO should be a close relative of her family.

The husband told the Police that his wife’s murder should be a mistake and the murderer might have come to kill him.

But, the Police are of the view that the possibility that a murder of this nature taking place by mistake is very slim as the husband and the wife were sleeping in separate beds. Police are conducting investigations.
