Jackson Anthony undergoes seven-hour surgery to his neck

Veteran Actor Jackson Anthony who was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital from Anuradhapura following the accident involving an elephant, underwent a seven-hour surgery to his neck yesterday, hospital sources told the Daily News.

He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the National Hospital soon after he was transferred from the Anuradhapura Hospital after sustaining injuries to his neck and lungs, it was reported on Sunday.

“Following the surgery, Jackson Anthony was readmitted to the ICU, where he is undergoing further treatment,” the sources further said.

The actor and two others were admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital with serious injuries after the SUV they were travelling in to their lodge following film shooting crashed into a wild elephant at Thalawa on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, Anthony’s family expressed their displeasure over the social media comments and the replies on this accident.Jackson Anthony’s son Sajitha Anuththara who was waiting in the hospital premises said “We need everyone’s prayers at this moment. Those who love my daddy will wish him a speedy recovery while others will say many more things. Now the surgery is going on. We don’t even have the mental freedom at this moment.”

Sudath Anthony, the brother of Jackson Anthony said “There is plenty of information about this incident. Most of them is not true. Only my brother knows what actually happened there. Therefore, let’s be patient and wait till he recovers in order to know the truth.”

Anuradhapura hospital sources stated that another brother of Jackson Anthony, Saman Anthony who was injured in the accident is also receiving in the ICU and is due to undergo surgery soon. The other person injured has left the hospital after completing treatments.


Three wildlife teams to locate elephant

Three groups of Wildlife Officers are conducting operations in the Moragoda Forest Reserve to locate the wild elephant which crashed into the vehicle travelled by Actor Jackson Anthony at Thalawa on Saturday, a Wildlife Officer told the Daily News.

According to him, the search operations are conducted along the elephant pass and the elephants’ usual route and near two reservoirs which are located in the forest reserve.

“Investigations conducted so far have not found any elephant sustaining injuries but are continuing,” he further said.
