Forty six Sri Lankans deported from Australia

Forty-six Sri Lankans deported from Australia arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on a special flight (ASY-978) last morning.

They had been arrested by the Australian authorities during an attempt to illegally enter the country. The deported are residents of Chilaw and two children under five are also among them.

The Sri Lankan nationals were accompanied by around 100 Australian security officers, it was reported. A group of officials from the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka took over the group of Sri Lankans at the BIA and later handed them over to the BIA Immigration and Emigration officers. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers will record statements from the suspects and they will be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.
