Hacked to death for delay in serving husband’s dinner

A 26-year-old woman has been hacked to death by her husband with an axe over the delay in serving him his dinner.

The victim has been identified as Subramaniam Satyavani, a mother of two living in a tea estate in the Nuwara Eliya area.

Police say the victim had been drinking alcohol with her husband at home on Saturday night and had later gone to the kitchen to get dinner for her husband. But as there had been a delay the husband had gone to the kitchen and had found his wife having a telephone conversation with another person. Angered by this act the husband had attacked his wife with an axe causing her fatal injuries.

The husband who killed his wife with an axe had surrendered to the Nuwara Eliya Police yesterday (26) morning, said the Chief Inspector of the Nuwara Eliya Police, Chief Inspector M.Jayasekara.

“The deceased woman has two daughters aged 7 and 3 years respectively,” police said. The suspect is to be produced in courts.
