Kuliyapitiya Teaching Hospital Consultant Surgeon Dr. Gamini Abeysinghe is seen these days riding his bicycle past the fuel filling station to treat his patients.
Queried by the media, the surgeon said that hospital staff request priority at fuel stations not for personal gain, but to be able to treat their patients.
He added but hospital staff have had to face difficulties in fuel queues and people scold them as well.
He said that it was sad that those in queues have got to bring their loved ones to hospital when an emergency occurs. However they do not comprehend the fact that due to their behaviour in the queues, the hospital staff might be in queues while they were waiting in hospital looking forward for the hospital staff who are still in queues.
The surgeon said that he decided to ride the bicycle to the hospital until the fuel issue is solved.
