Present Government has no proper future economic development plans - Opposition Leader

Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa highlighted that the SJB and the United Peoples Alliance had a clear vision to fulfil the lost expectations of 220 million people in the country and said that the SJB is expected to accept power from this Government at any moment in order to fulfil the aspirations of people and prosper the lives of people, who are currently wasting their valuable time in queues to purchase essential goods.

He said it is pity that the President, the Prime Minister or any other Government minister have no pulse to see the agony of people, who are wasting their valuable time in the queues. Opposition Leader Premadasa made these remarks at a recent meeting held at Opposition Leader’s office in Colombo with the participation of SJB MPs Dr. Harsha de Silva, Dr. Rajitha Senartana and Ranjith Madduma Bandara. In addition two Opposition Parliamentarians Chandima Weerakkody and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa were also present to express their views on the current economic crisis in the country.

The Opposition Leader said as the Government has no proper future economic development plans even the international community has sidelined us and show no respect to the country’s present leadership.

Premadasa also reiterated that his objective is to first form a corruption free interim government, which is represented by efficient members of all parties in the Parliament and lead the country’s economy to the correct path to fulfil the aspirations and the needs of people. “Thereafter we wish to form a five-year stable government with the blessings of people following an election,” he said.

The Opposition Leader further said neither the President nor the Prime Minister has proper plans to develop the country’s day today deteriorating economy and this situation is clearly seen with the unending queues all over the country and people are wasting their time to buy fuel and other essential items.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rajitha Senaratna said the SJB is continuously fighting to obtain the power of Parliament considering the agony of innocent people in the country.

Dr. Harsha de Silva stressed that the Government should step down at this crucial juncture as it cannot fulfil the needs of the people and they are immensely suffering.
