Navy seizes Kerala cannabis worth Rs. 120 mn

During a search operation conducted yesterday morning off the coast of Periyapadu, Udappuwa, the Sri Lanka Navy seized a stock of 543 kilogrammes of Kerala cannabis worth Rs.120 million.

The Sri Lanka Navy found 173 parcels weighing 543 kilogrammes of cannabis which had been washed ashore.

It is believed that the smugglers had abandoned the Kerala cannabis and fled to the sea without being able to bring it ashore due to the naval presence. It is believed that the gross street value of the Kerala cannabis seized by the Navy is close to Rs. 120 million.

The Navy is conducting further search operations in the Periyapadu area off Udappuwa and handed over the seized cannabis to the Udappuwa Police for legal action.
