Three-wheeler driver stabbed in robbery attempt

A driver of a three-wheeler was stabbed in the head by a passenger who was riding in his vehicle, in an attempt at robbery, in Bibile on Saturday.

The suspect stabbed the three-wheeler driver Sumathipala (60) of Hewelwela, Bibile, in order to rob him. The victim was admitted to the Bibile Base Hospital.

It transpired that the suspect had got into the three-wheeler in Bibile and had instructed the driver to go along the Mahiyanganaya road. At a lonely place in Dewaketiya, the passenger stabbed the driver on the head several times with a knife.

When the driver struggled and shouted out, residents in the area pproached them, whereupon the suspect fled from the scene.

The driver said that the suspect was a youth of around 20 years.

The Bibile Police are conducting investigations to arrest the suspect.
