Bourse crashes as economic crisis hits pinnacle – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a negative note this week with ASPI decreasing by 426.40 points (or -5.40%) to close at 7,472.39 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 191.92 points (or -7.50%) to close at 2,368.65 points.

Turnover & Market Capitalization

Expolanka was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 0.80Bn or 20.38% of the total turnover value. Browns Investments followed suit, accounting for 13.34% of turnover (value of LKR 0.52Bn) while Lanka IOC contributed LKR 0.37Bn to account for 9.50% of the week’s turnover. The total turnover value amounted to LKR 3.92Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 6.63Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 0.98Bn (-26.08% W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 1.33Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, decreased by 6.94% W-o-W (or LKR 240.20Bn) to LKR 3,221.30Bn cf. LKR 3,461.50Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

Transportation Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value, accounting for 20.38% (or LKR 0.80Bn) of market turnover. Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Expolanka which accounted for 100.00% of the sector’s total turnover. Capital Goods Group meanwhile accounted for 18.75% of the total turnover value while Food Beverage & Tobacco Group contributed 17.69% to the weekly turnover.

The Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume, accounting for 32.94% (or 65.26Mn shares) of total volume, with a value contribution of LKR 0.69Bn. The Diversified Financials Industry Group followed suit, adding 15.89% to the total volume (31.48Mn shares) while the Capital Goods Group contributed 10.50% (20.80Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.
