Protesters block Makumbura Multimodal Centre

The Makumbura Multimodal Centre in Kottawa was completely blocked yesterday by bus drivers demanding fuel.

Buses operating on the Kottawa-Borella (Route 174), Kottawa-Mount Lavinia (Route 255), Homagama-Colombo Fort (Route 138) and Mattegoda-Colombo Fort (Route 138/1) had staged the demonstration at the Makumbura Multimodal Centre. As a result, a tense situation arose between the passengers using expressway buses and the protesting bus drivers.

The police had to be brought in to bring the situation under control. Later, a discussion was held between the Makumbura Multimodal Centre officials and the bus drivers regarding the provision of fuel.
