Private bus owners want diesel before Friday

Private bus operations countrywide will have to be stopped by Friday (17) unless the authorities take steps to provide them with diesel within the next two days, Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) President Gemunu Wijerathne said.

Addressing the media he said yesterday that only 25 percen of private buses are operating until today (15), which is around 4,000 buses and it will decrease to 3,000 by tomorrow due to the fuel crisis.

He also said that the private buses received diesel through the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) depots in Colombo and several other areas until Monday, but it did not happen yesterday. ‘Bus owners will be able to run their buses from next Monday onwards if adequate fuel is received by them’, he said adding that the present fuel crisis in the country will prevail for another three or four months. “The government should tell the truth to the people of this country as the upcoming weeks are very critical. If not, the present government will have to face more severe consequences,”, Wijerathne said.
